WHY SOLAR

A brief introduction to solar technology

A photo-voltaic panel (or solar panel) is a packaged interconnected assembly of photo-voltaic cells, also known as solar cells. They are used as components in a larger solar system to provide electricity for civil, commercial and residential applications. The solar system harnesses energy from the sun, and converts it into energy that can be used for multiple practical applications.

Why Solar Power?

Solar technology provides environmental and social advantages over other energy sources. Some of the advantages are:

  • Low Energy Costs: The sun provides solar radiation for free
  • Low Maintenance: Fewer moveable parts meaning fewer parts can break
  • No Emissions: Solar lighting does not contribute to global warming
  • All Day: everyday: Solar solutions continue working even if there is a Power Cut
  • Easy installation: There are no confusing wires – each system is independent

Why in Nigeria?

In Nigeria, apart from the load of electricity bills,, the supply of electricity is unpredictable, unreliable and in many cases unavailable. It has led to alternative energy solutions such as solar energy. This is critical to our economic development. Recognizing the importance of this, the Government of Nigeria has set up the Energy Commission of Nigeria with the statutory mandate to coordinate national policies in the field of energy. This apex government organ is empowered to promote the diversification of the energy resources through the development and optimal utilization of all alternative Energy resources, including Solar Energy.

We are going to compare the use of solar/Inverter,inverter/NEPA(PHCN) with Generator and see which one is preferable here in Nigeria.

We will use the case study of 2.5KVA power supply for 24 hours.

Home/Office package for 24 hours with solar panel:

 Inverter 2.5KVA          -            N 150,000

Battery 200 AHM        -            N 20,000 x 4 = N200,000

Charger Controller       -            N 30,000

Solar Panel                    -            N 360,000

Miscellaneous             -             N 20,000

TOTA L                        =           N 740,000 + 10% Labour =N 834,000

This investment will last for more than 15 years before it  will need any form of maintenance or replacement, it will supply you 24 hours power without failure.

With Generator

 Generator                                                                                       -              N30,000

Fuel for 24 hour per day    - 12 litre x N97                                  =             N1,164 per day

Fuel consumption per week - N1164 x 7                                    =              N8,148

Fuel consumption per month  = N8,148 per week N8,148 x 4   =            N32, 592 per month

Fuel consumption per year N 32,592 x 12                                    =           N 391,104

Fuel consumption for 5 years                                                      =             N1,955,520

Fuel consumption for 20 years                                                    =             N 3,911,040

NOTE:

We  have not included the  maintenance  fee and also note that there is  no generator that is been used for 24 hours that will last beyond 18 months. So you will need to change your generator to a new one after 18 months.

With Inverter/NEPA(PHCN)

Inverter 2.5KVA             -              N 150, 000

Battery 200 Ahm            =             N 50,000 X 4 = N 20,000

Labour x 10%

Total                                =              N 385,000

This package is good for people who stay where they will have power supply (PHCN) at least for 6 - 8 hours a day. After charging the  battery, it will last for 14 - 16 hours.

Why Now?

Trends in solar cell development and production have led to a steady decline in the cost of solar energy , making it more competitive than ever before. In addition, as the rising cost of fuel continues to hinder electrification which traditionally depended on petrol or diesel powered generators, the viability of solar has begun to look increasingly attractive, not only in the medium to long term as was the case before, but in the immediate, measurable, future.

Why You?

Whether you are contractor that is engaged in civil installations, a corporate officer that is tasked with reducing energy related expenses, or the head of a household looking to meet its everyday power requirements – Solar energy can solve your problems once and for all. Solar solutions can save you money and provide your regular, predictable, stable power. Why look any further?

Why Us?

After all, not all solar panels are created equal! There are large variations in durability, performance and price. Green Energy recognizes that one of the major advantages of solar solutions is their longevity and reliability. In order for our clients to realize these benefits, it is imperative that we source only the highest quality solar products, and back them up with pre-sales and after-sales customer service and support. Our consultative approach to selling has been a key part of our success to date. Our panels are ISO 9001/2000 and IEC 61215 certified , while our advanced technology, Cobra Head LEDs, deliver higher lumens (brightness intensity) than alternate products available in the market.
